MARTHA WAINWRIGHT SINGS PIAF

A matchless match, a critically acclaimed project: celebrated Canadian folk artist Martha Wainwright sings passionate French legend Edith Piaf.

Daughter of folk musicians Loudon Wainwright III and Kate MacGarrigle, Martha Wainwright is poet-singer Rufus Wainwright's sister, and frequently appears in the albums of family members. Debuting in 2005 with her eponymous studio album, Martha quickly drew attention in Canada and later in Europe. Edith Piaf, in the meanwhile, has always been one of Wainwright's role models in singing. Montreal-born Wainwright learned French at school and was inspired by Piaf's passionate, heart-rending, painful style and emotional prowess, listening to the French legend since she was 8.

BUIKA

A stunning vocalist who fuses contemporary Spanish and Latin music with melancholic elements of jazz and flamenco, Buika gained a large number of followers in Turkey with her last album El Último Trago. Buika is a brilliant songwriter as much as being an exceptional and influential singer: With her ethnic identity extending from Spain to Africa, she subtly and profoundly combines jazz, funk, flamenco, gypsy, rumba, Afro-Cuban rhythms, copla and new soul in her much-admired and acclaimed work. Captivating audiences with her strong performances where she uses the stage as an open space to establish a deeper connection with her listeners, Buika is also versatile in playing the guitar, piano, bass and cello. The New York Times music critic Jon Pareles described Buika live on stage at New York City as nothing short of "magnificent", and her Istanbul concert will surely be nothing short of that either.

SEAL

One of the most powerful voices of soul and modern R&B, Seal is known for his renditions of popular hits such as "Killer", "Crazy" and Grammy-awarded "Kiss from A Rose", and Soul, his sixth studio album, which includes interpretations of soul and jazz standards.

His silky voice reminiscent of Nat King Cole and his unique singing style quickly brought him international fame in the 1990s, and he became one of the most popular British soul vocalists of the decade. Although his earliest material still showed signs of acid house, he later created a distinctive fusion of soul, folk, pop, dance, and rock.

Rihanna

Barbados-born, Grammy and MTV Award winner superstar Rihanna will be in Istanbul on June 3rd.

From her breakthrough multi-platinum album “A Girl Like Me” to her ubiquitous global smash “Good Girl Gone Bad,” in just a few short years, Rihanna has helped redefine the path of popular music for a new generation. Now, she continues that musical and stylistic journey on one of the most hotly anticipated new albums in recent history, her fourth original studio album, Rated R.

In 2005, Rihanna released her debut studio album, Music of the Sun, which peaked in the top ten of the Billboard 200 chart and features the Billboard Hot 100 hit single "Pon de Replay". Less than a year later, she released her second studio album, A Girl Like Me (2006), which peaked within the top five of the Billboard albums chart, and produced her first US number one hit single, "SOS", as well as Billboard Hot 100 top ten entries "Unfaithful" and "Break It Off". Rihanna's third studio album, Good Girl Gone Bad (2007), peaking at number two on the Billboard 200, featured five top ten hits including three US number one hit singles—"Umbrella", "Take a Bow" and "Disturbia"—and the worldwide hit "Don't Stop the Music". Good Girl Gone Bad showed Rihanna’s many layers as a singer, performer and musician. The album was nominated for nine Grammy Awards, winning Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Umbrella," which features Jay-Z. Her fourth studio album, Rated R, was released in November 2009. Its first three singles, "Russian Roulette", "Hard" and "Rude Boy" peaked within the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. Rihanna has attained six number ones in the USA since 2006, making her the female artist with the most number ones of the century.

Rihanna has received several accolades, including the 2007 World Music Awards for World's Best-Selling Pop Female Artist and Female Entertainer of the Year, as well as the 2008 American Music Awards for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. She serves as one of Barbados's honorary cultural
ambassadors. In January 2010, Rihanna received two Grammy Awards for Jay-Z's 2009 single "Run This Town", bringing her total number of Grammys won to three.
